Apr. 2nd, 2010 11:48 amI went through all the fics submitted to the bitesize collection, after putting it off for months. I like reading short fics, but if it's the type of fic I'm looking for, it requires a lot of concentration to read, and if it's not the type of fic I'm looking for, then I have to think of the best way to reject it.
I hate rejecting fics, because I always worry the authors are going to take it as a judgment of the quality of the fic, or of how much I liked it, rather than whether or not it is the correct type of fic.
This time, I decided not to write an explanation justifying each rejection, like I have done before. The author might not even care, or remember that they added the fic to that collection, and they might see the explanation as a critique of the fic.
If I'm lucky, if they do notice, they'll check the FAQ and work out how their fic didn't fit the criteria for themselves.
When it becomes possible for a collection mod to invite fics with the click of a button I might make the collection invitation only. The drawback would be that the collection would reflect my reading pattern too much, but I do read widely, so I don't think that would be a huge issue.
