Expectations too high, or just not your kind of movie?
I went in expecting a dumb faux-feminist movie with lots of action and a "strong" female character, so I was very pleasantly surprised at how self-aware it was the whole way through, and how it turned your expectations based on tropes on their heads.
As for the visual side, I think I probably don't appreciate it enough. It looked good, nice landscapes and filming and stuff, but I didn't really understand the color thing, and I didn't pick up on how the director's wife cut it in a way that was different from how the genre is usually cut. But the use of 3D was good, not gimmicky or headache inducing.
Whoa, did hockey ever eat my brain and leave me too busy to reply to comments! Seriously, right now it feels like when I fell truly madly deeply in love with Supernatural - I expect it to last a lot shorter than that, though.
Anyways, Mad Max - I have replied to this comment in my head enough that it seems I should have replied to it here as well.
Expectations definitely too high and partly not my kind of movie - I'm really bad with gore/threat of gore the first time I watch something, and even though calvinahobbes claims it's not gory, it was gory enough (i.e. too much) for me, and certainly the threat of gore was very, very high.
And I didn't expect it to be so cracky - I had no clue they were going that route, my bad, *hands*.
