Easier usernames

I'm signal boosting what I think are two great suggestions.
Are you tired of typing <user name=noracharles> every time you want
noracharles? Or worse, typing <user name=nora_charles site=livejournal.com> every time you want
nora_charles?
As far as I understand, on twitter if I were to write "I went to see a movie with Ximeria yesterday", then
ximeria would not see it unless she went looking for it, but if I were to write "I went to see a movie with @ximeria yesterday", then she would know that I was inviting her to read or join the conversation if she felt like it. Would you like that option in dreamwidth as well?
Please take a look at this comment, where I summarize a suggestion made by
desh to be able to mention other users in a way which notifies them of that mention and a suggestion made by
mark to be able to write usernames in a much shorter, handier, easier to remember way. Reply to that comment with your opinion :-D
