Brad Falchuk, you racist, sexist, despicable ass, you really want us to believe that Will would call Mike Chang "other Asian"? Will is condescending and horrible, but he does cling to the superficial appearance of political correctness. You think that racist joke was so funny that you'll sacrifice characterization to shove it in?
The glee kids who used to feel resentful that the same few kids always get all the solos and attention now really, really want to sing a song about how special Finn and Quinn are. Right.
Finally an episode about Quinn and her motivation for keeping the pregnancy secret and her home life Bait and switch. It's another episode about how Finn feels about Quinn's pregnancy, and how Finn feels about keeping it secret, and how Quinn's family is intimidating to Finn, and how Finn has to invite Quinn home with him when she gets kicked out.
Poor Will, surrounded by hysterical women. How tragic for you. Women are horrible, just ask Kurt and Brad.
There almost was a race Bechdel pass this episode. In spirit, it's fail all the way. Technically, I don't think it's a real pass, since we didn't see or hear Tina's side of Mercedes' one-sided conversation with her, but I have counted a one-sided conversation before, so I did again for consistency's sake.

Date: 2009-11-19 03:36 pm (UTC)Are there any shows to watch this season that won't fill me with rage? The Amazing Race is all about exploiting violence against women to give the viewers a thrill. Supernatural is all about rape, and women and people of color being evil. Modern Family is still on probation with me. How I Met Your Mother takes place in an alternate reality where only white people exist, and women are decorative, prizes and/or plot devices. White Collar made me so angry last week that I can't even tell you about it.
Castle has been recced to me. It just sounds a bit boring, to be honest. Not that I'll know if I don't give it a try.

Date: 2009-11-19 03:50 pm (UTC)But Glee was sold to us a progressive and diverse, and it's actually one of the worse shows. I don't know if it's deliberate, but I've also noticed that the Puck loves Finn subtext has been completely dropped (Queer men are femme! Femme you hear! Kurt and Sandy: yes, Puck: no!) and the Brittany/Santana subtext is being pushed heavily.
It's the same with The Daily Show. So many offensive, oppressive jokes, and I thought they were supposed to be better than that.
