It's true that most female characters in shows nearly obligate OCing them. Sam Carter just gets shortchanged in SG-1 by the whole inappropriate smurfiness with Jack.
For me, slash lets me start with two people. Canon het, I'm back at Scarecrow and Mrs King and Remington Steele.
I like to give the characters better loving that the BotWs ever were. Sometimes that does lead to extremes.
