It was pretty hard for me to wrap my mind around. It always is, when I'm blind to my privilege, which I usually am. But at least I've learned that when my reaction to someone telling me they are hurt is to be bored and annoyed, then I need to go away and check my privilege.
As usual, it helped me imagining myself in their place, and remembering situations where a milestone for "my people" has been disdainfully swept away as being no big deal, because it was not on the agenda of someone more privileged.
