Wow, that's a lot of repressed and dissociated emotion, and an intriguing start. I like how Atwood first shows the narrator's emotional distance to the suicide, then has her tell us and explain it, with her being in shock and with keeping up appearances. I wonder about the beautiful imagery, why that is.
